About The Position

RxFiles is Saskatchewan’s academic detailing service, based in the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Pharmacy and Nutrition. RxFiles provides objective, evidence-informed drug information to support optimal prescribing and patient care. The work of RxFiles translates clinical evidence and real-world experience into practical tools used by healthcare professionals, including drug comparison charts, educational materials, and academic detailing sessions. The primary purpose of RxFiles is to provide evidence-informed, objective, comparative drug information and promote optimal drug therapy. The service considers available evidence and clinical experience, synthesized into practical information resources. Information is then delivered to healthcare providers via academic detailing discussions, conference presentations, and printed/digital educational materials. RxFiles Academic Detailing is based out of the University of Saskatchewan, College of Pharmacy and Nutrition.

Requirements

  • Licensed (or eligible to be licensed) to practice pharmacy in Saskatchewan.
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license and can use a personal vehicle for work-related appointments (e.g., academic detailing).
  • At least 7 years education / training / experience in a relevant field is required.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including MS Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal training / education in academic detailing and/or evidence-based medicine is an asset.
  • Formal training / education in one of the following areas is an asset: leadership, project management, human resources.
  • Previous supervision and leadership / management experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated skills in information synthesis, writing, and experience in publishing and editing.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide balanced discussions of controversial issues.

Responsibilities

  • Development of printed and digital academic detailing content, including oversight and coordination of a team of RxFiles writers.
  • Training of RxFiles academic detailers.
  • Supervision of students and administrative assistants assigned to projects.
  • Delivery of academic detailing services for up to two therapeutic topics annually.
  • Coordination and leadership of RxFiles team members.
  • Engagement and consultation with content experts.
  • Independent and collaborative project work on various drug therapy topics.
  • Application of information searching, critical appraisal, original writing, and computer processing skills to the development of related drug information resources.
  • Work with family physicians, medical specialists, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners in developing and delivering educational outreach throughout Saskatchewan.
  • Bring a high level of expertise to the drug therapy decision-making environment, understanding evidence, and knowledge translation.
  • Provide leadership and training in a variety of drug therapy decision-making contexts and networks.
  • Build effective collaborative networks with healthcare providers in SK and with academic detailing services across North America.
  • Managing academic detailing topic development, team training, execution/service delivery, ongoing material updating, and providing team support.
  • Communicate and collaborate with external stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify practice and knowledge gaps.
  • Develop educational materials to support academic detailing visits (e.g., key messages, drug information charts, infographics, newsletters, patient tools).
  • Ensure that academic detailing topics meet professional accreditation standards.
  • Develop curriculum for team training (e.g., identifying relevant content and the most appropriate delivery of education).
  • Coordination of skill development and training sessions (e.g., event scheduling and arranging for content experts’ interviews).
  • Instructing training sessions for academic detailer skill development (e.g., evidence-based medicine).
  • Provide ongoing support and mentoring of the academic detailing team (e.g., answering drug information questions and developing PowerPoint slides for educational events).
  • Support academic detailers in attaining performance targets.
  • Develop a service evaluation survey and respond appropriately to findings.
  • Monitoring service delivery targets.
  • Write semi-annual academic detailing reports that accurately reflect topic impact (e.g., number of physicians detailed and other health care providers).
  • Provide academic detailing services in Saskatoon and area.
  • Lead development of scientific articles for publication (e.g., Canadian Family Physician Journal, Bringing Evidence to Practice).
  • Lead development of conference presentations to national audience (e.g., Family Medicine Forum).
  • Produce educational materials (printed/digital) and educational outreach.
  • Network with provider groups and education groups in Saskatchewan (e.g., Continuing Medical Education groups – Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment, Saskatchewan Rural Relief Physicians, Saskatchewan College of Family Physicians, Saskatchewan Association of Nurse Practitioners, University of Saskatchewan Continuing Pharmacy Education, Pharmacy Association of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals) and to support pertinent conferences and initiatives.
  • Develop expertise in assigned therapeutic areas.
  • Assist with updating, editing, reviewing, and publishing of the RxFiles Drug Comparison Charts book.
  • Provide lectures/educational support to the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition when requested (e.g., therapeutic lectures, clinical examinations).
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other national academic detailing services.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate pharmacy interns.
  • Contribute to the development of RxFiles Academic Detailing policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Benefits

  • The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $87,266.00 - 145,353.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
