About The Position

The College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC) at Auburn University, a comprehensive land-grant and research institution, invites applications for the position of Academic Advisor. This position is part of a dedicated team located in the CADC's Office of Student Services, advising students on course selections, explaining university policies, assisting with registration, maintaining student records, and supporting orientations to help students meet their educational goals. It also provides an opportunity to help students pursuing careers in construction management while contributing to their academic and professional success. The Academic Advisor reports directly to the Director of Student Services and works closely with the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture to support students. The CADC Office of Student Services seeks candidates who are interested in working in a collaborative environment to oversee consistent application of advising policies and procedures and conduct comprehensive academic, career and other student support services. Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being: Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time, Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads, Assistance with special projects, Seasonal work, Emergencies. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in no specific discipline
  • 0-3 years of experience with a focus of student-related advising or academic counseling.
  • Knowledge acquired through the course of undergraduate academic endeavors.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in academic advising, student services, higher education, or counseling
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with student information systems such as Advise Assist and/or Banner
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students

Responsibilities

  • Advises students regarding goals, policies, curriculum choices, course load and scheduling, academic actions, and problem resolution; provides referrals as necessary.
  • Explains university policies, procedures, and curricula to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborates to deliver information about educational options and university policies to students in a timely manner.
  • Assists with and coordinates registration procedures.
  • Prepares schedule adjustments, including verifying transient student requests and assisting with course articulation.
  • Evaluates, updates, and maintains student records in compliance with state and federal laws and university regulations to monitor progress, advise on courses of study, and process graduation checks.
  • Supports student orientations for first-year and transfer students, including Camp War Eagle and Successfully Orienting Students.
  • Assists with on-campus recruitment activities.
  • Employs technology to enhance advising effectiveness.
  • Participates in professional development and builds connections with departments and faculty.
  • Exercises sound professional judgement when advising students and interpreting university policies.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
