About The Position

The Student Success Coach will serve as the primary academic advisor for undecided students. This position will ensure that undecided students achieve timely progress to graduation through the completion of general education requirements and will help students explore and declare a major. Additionally, this position will facilitate student success, retention, and graduation, through the provision of strategic intervention and support to at-risk student populations. The Success Coach will assist at-risk students by providing academic skills, creating individualized success plans, and assisting with navigating available resources. The Student Success Coach will act independently with initiative, exercise discretion, and possess a student-focused, solutions-oriented, and professional demeanor that complements the Student Success Center and the mission of Benedictine College.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), along with the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Computer skills including Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.), e-mail, and database software
  • Promptness and regular attendance are essential
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential student information in compliance with FERPA.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1-3 years of experience in academic advising, student success, higher education, counseling, retention services, or related student support work preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an academic advisor for undecided students and students admitted on probation.
  • Ensure undecided students make timely progress to graduation through the fulfillment of general education requirements.
  • Promote major exploration for undecided students and help them to declare a major.
  • Serve as the case manager for students who are readmitted on probation following academic dismissal.
  • Monitor students on academic warning and academic probation and intervene as needed.
  • Develop academic support programs for students on academic warning, academic probation, and other students who have been identified as academically at-risk.
  • Provide early interventions to identify and communicate with at-risk students identified by faculty in each academic term.
  • Assist the Vice Provost in the implementation of interventions for at-risk students following the 4-Week Progress Report and Midterm grade processes.
  • Assist the Vice Provost in monitoring and managing the Navigate case management platform.
  • Serve as the primary staff member to triage walk-in students’ needs and concerns.
  • Develop and provide programs that promote academic success for the campus community.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to develop programs, services or opportunities to support the success of students.
  • Work closely with key campus partners (Business Office, Financial Aid, Registrar’s Office, Student Life, Residential Life) to ensure effective facilitation of connecting students to campus resources.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Exercises independent judgment regarding student intervention strategies and individualized academic support plans.
