About The Position

California State University, Fullerton (Cal State Fullerton) is seeking an Academic Advisor for its Online Business Program. This role is part of the Dean's Office for the College of Business and Economics and is committed to leading business education through program quality, balancing theory and practice, and expanding outreach. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, an active mind, and highly ethical practices with a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness. This is a temporary, part-time position ending on or before June 30, 2027, with potential for renewal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration, or a job-related field.
  • One year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level.
  • Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Equivalent amounts of job-related, graduate level education may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management.
  • Working knowledge of research techniques, interview techniques, and the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures and activities and the overall organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Must complete a background check (including a criminal records check) satisfactorily.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in liberal arts, counseling, student affairs, psychology, public administration, or a job-related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field.
  • In-progress or earned master's degree in a relevant field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
  • Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Knowledge of academic counseling techniques and proven ability to effectively listen, advise, and counsel students on university and college program offerings, policies, procedures, and curricular requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, Teams, Dropbox, Text Expander, and Student Information Systems such as Navigate360.
  • Skill in maintaining effective electronic filing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing academic advisement and support to undergraduate students in the Online Business degree completion program.
  • Advises newly admitted and continuing undergraduate students on their major degree requirements, course selection, evaluation of transcripts, and general university policies and procedures.
  • Conducts outreach to students on academic notice.
  • Assists in the creation, enhancement, facilitation, and assessment of Online Business student events and support resources.
  • Assists in maintaining various tools and spreadsheets utilized for efficient service and support.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
