About The Position

This position coordinates and administers career and/or academic advising functions for University of Wyoming students within the College of Business Student Success Center. The role involves providing academic, personal, and career advising, potentially assisting with faculty advisor assignments and training, and advising students facing academic difficulties. It also includes long-term degree planning, reviewing student forms, evaluating transcripts, performing degree checks, and supporting first-year initiatives through resources, workshops, and campus events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 year work-related experience working with student populations, administration, program development, customer service or other related fields.

  • Experience working in a higher education or K-12 setting.
  • Experience with student information systems and/or database systems.
  • Knowledge of principles of academic and/or career advising.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, oral, and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience developing effective relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Understanding of FERPA and maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic, personal, and/or career advising to students.
  • Assist with the assignment of faculty advisors; conduct advisement training seminars for faculty advisors.
  • Advise undeclared, probationary, conditionally admitted, suspended, or reinstated students to help identify and overcome their academic difficulties; conduct follow-up sessions.
  • Provide long-term degree planning and aid in connections that work towards degree completion and graduation.
  • Responsible for review and approval of student forms, as directed; evaluate transcripts and perform degree checks, as directed.
  • Support first-year initiatives through student specific printed and electronic resources and workshops, and campus-wide events such as FYE, Saddle-Up, New Student, etc.
  • Assist with program activities.
  • Keep up to date on University and College policies and regulations pertaining to degree requirements.
  • Assist with special projects, as directed.
  • Serve on committees, as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
