About The Position

This position involves managing and maintaining the AAC and assistive technology hardware and software within the lab. The assistant will be responsible for setting up and maintaining devices such as iPads, including the installation and updating of applications. A key part of the role is developing a strong understanding of various AAC applications and systems to assist others in their use. The assistant will also provide basic technology support to students and other lab users, collaborate with occupational therapy students and other lab participants, and assist with research activities related to AAC and assistive technology. Additionally, the role supports lab outreach, demonstrations, and educational events, and helps ensure the lab environment is organized, accessible, and functional.

Requirements

  • Must be an SLP undergraduate student.
  • Dependable.
  • Curious about technology.
  • Interested in AAC.
  • Comfortable learning new software and devices.
  • Planning to pursue graduate study in speech-language pathology.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with AAC is helpful but not required.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain AAC and assistive technology hardware and software in the lab.

  • Develop familiarity with a variety of AAC applications and systems and assist others in learning to use these tools.
  • Provide basic technology support to students and others using the AAC lab.
  • Collaborate, as appropriate, with occupational therapy students and other students working in the lab.
  • Assist with research activities related to AAC and assistive technology.
  • Support lab outreach, demonstrations, and educational activities.
  • Help maintain an organized, accessible, and functional lab environment.
