7th Grade Basketball Head Coach -MSK
About The Position
The 7th Grade Basketball Head Coach at the Middle School of the Kennebunk leads and develops the middle school basketball program, supporting athletic excellence and student-athletes’ personal growth. The coach designs and implements training programs to build skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship, and serves as a mentor and role model. The role promotes a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation and achievement, while collaborating with school staff, parents, and the community to support each athlete’s development. The position reports to the Director of Athletics and Coordinator of Athletic Operations. Compensation is a fixed stipend of $2,986 for the season, with possible additional compensation if the season is extended. Salary and benefits are governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Board policies. Performance is evaluated annually by the Building Principal. The district will provide reasonable accommodations as required by applicable law. Employer surveillance technology may be used to monitor activity and communications.
Requirements
- Experience coaching middle school sports or equivalent youth coaching experience.
- Strong knowledge of basketball rules, techniques, and training methodologies.
- Ability to obtain and maintain coaching certifications or clearances required by the school or state.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with students, parents, and staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for athletes.
- Certification in first aid, CPR, or sports safety training.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute training plans tailored to the skill levels and needs of middle school athletes.
- Lead practices, games, and team meetings, focusing on skill development, strategy, and sportsmanship.
- Monitor and evaluate athlete progress, providing constructive feedback and support.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, safety regulations, and league rules during athletic activities.
- Foster a positive team culture emphasizing respect, inclusivity, and personal growth.
- Communicate regularly with parents, school administrators, and other coaches to coordinate schedules and address concerns.
- Organize and manage the team during travel and bring equipment.
