About The Position

2nd Operation Machinist Location: Dayton, Ohio Department: Operations Employment Type: Full-Time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Join Our Manufacturing Team Auto-Valve, Inc. (AVI), a leader in the aerospace and defense industry, is seeking a 2nd Operation Machinist to join our Operations team. This hands-on position is responsible for the secondary processing and finishing of CNC-machined and press-stamped components. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, and takes pride in producing high-quality precision parts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–3 years of shop or manufacturing experience preferred , or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic blueprint-reading skills.
  • Familiarity with basic measuring and inspection instruments.
  • Ability to use common hand tools and manufacturing equipment.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to understand and follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate drill presses, punch presses, hydraulic presses, pedestal grinders, pneumatic tools, hand tools, and other standard equipment.
  • Deburr, grind, polish, clean, assemble, and finish machined and stamped metal components.
  • Perform machine setups and verify completed work against blueprints and specifications.
  • Apply required part identification using methods such as electrochemical etching, vibropeening, metal stamping, or ink stamping.
  • Use precision measuring and inspection equipment, including plug gauges, functional gauges, and calipers , to verify parts meet requirements.
  • Read and work from product drawings and basic blueprints.
  • Use hand grinders and other tools to achieve required contours, dimensions, and surface finishes.
  • Follow applicable customer specifications and manufacturing requirements.
  • Accurately complete required production and quality documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
