The 2L Spring Intern program is for current second-year law students who will have completed one full year of law school before the internship begins. Based in the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office in Castle Rock, Colorado, interns gain practical experience on criminal cases and work alongside experienced prosecutors throughout the prosecution process, from investigation through trial. The work may involve cases including murder, sexual assault, aggravated robbery, and other violent crimes. Interns can research legal issues, assist with pleadings, observe courtroom proceedings, review felony filings for potential evidentiary challenges, and prepare trial exhibits. The program is designed for law students considering criminal prosecution. Interns receive training and mentorship intended to prepare them to return as 3L interns working and trying cases under the Student Practice Act. Interns are treated as part of the team and participate in meetings, training, and gatherings with deputy district attorneys. The position is paid at $21 per hour; interns may also earn law school credit. During fall and spring semesters, interns work part-time, with schedules tailored to accommodate school calendars.
