Sanofi is seeking a motivated Spring Co-op to join the Biochemistry team within the Global Antigen Design Department in Waltham, Massachusetts. The team contributes to vaccine candidate development, from early prototype optimization through IND-enabling activities. The co-op will support development of next-generation vaccines targeting respiratory pathogens, potentially including seasonal and pandemic influenza, RSV, hMPV, and COVID. The primary focus is vaccine candidate characterization. Under the guidance of experienced team members, the co-op will learn, design, perform, and execute research-scale protein expression, purification, and characterization campaigns. Work may involve Hamilton automatic purification systems and protein purification methods such as affinity purification, IEX, and SEC. The co-op may also learn bioanalytical techniques and tools including HPLC, mass spectrometry, DSC, BLI, and CryoEM to assess whether protein antigens are correctly folded. The role also offers exposure to an integrated, high-throughput automation system for protein expression, purification, and characterization. The co-op will complete laboratory research tasks under supervision, learn through scientific literature and collaboration with the team, maintain experiment notebooks according to QA requirements, support laboratory and equipment upkeep, attend group meetings, and present data. The position is a six-month co-op requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, for the full duration. Candidates must remain enrolled at an accredited college or university throughout the co-op and be able to relocate to the office location.
