About The Position

The MS/US Teaching Fellowship and Grade 6-12 Teaching Substitute provides an opportunity for Parker to recruit exceptional individuals who are committed to becoming outstanding teachers. Preferred candidates will have earned a Bachelor's degree with an excellent academic record and must be enrolled or in the process of enrolling in a teacher credentialing course of study. Current professional certification is not required to serve as a MS/US Teaching Fellow and Grade 6-12 Teaching Substitute. Fellows are expected to commit to the fellowship for the academic year that they are appointed, with the possibility to extend the fellowship by mutual agreement. The MS/US Teaching Fellow and Grade 6-12 Teaching Substitute brings new perspectives into the classroom while gaining significant teaching experience in an innovative and supportive environment. Candidates for the MS/US Teaching Fellowship and Grade 6-12 Teaching Substitute should exemplify the highest regard for subject matter knowledge and a passion for teaching.   • If the candidate is enrolled in a master’s degree program, obtaining their teaching credential, or a similar education program within a School of Education in the broader San Diego Area, they must remain in good academic standing (maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher) while serving as the MS/US Teaching Fellowship and Grade 6-12 Teaching Substitute program.
  • All selected Fellows will be screened in accordance with the employment policy at Francis Parker.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, nurturing environment for students that encourages social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development
  • Be familiar with the ages and stages of development for students assigned to the grade level
  • Demonstrate awareness of the entire classroom group, whether working with a small group or individuals
  • Perform duties that are instructional or deliver direct services to students or parents/guardians under the supervision of the assigned classroom teacher(s)
  • Prepare lesson plans, materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations as necessary to support instruction, as approved by the classroom teacher(s)
  • Tutor and assist students in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
  • Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
  • Supervise students while on Campus or during educational off-campus activities
  • Uphold school rules, STRIVE (school character code), and school policies and practices.
  • In consultation and at the direction of the supervising teacher, participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students’ progress or concerns
  • In consultation and at the direction of the supervising teacher, participate actively in the teaching team through communication, collaboration, and curriculum planning
  • Attend faculty/staff meetings and serve on committees as requested.
  • In consultation and at the direction of the supervising teacher, respond to teacher/parent/students' concerns with sensitivity, interest, and respect.
  • Continue professional growth by attending courses, asking for feedback, and reading professional literature.
