About The Position

Tyree Learning Center is seeking a School Psychologist to provide comprehensive psychological services to students. This role involves consultation, direct student services, assessment, and active participation in the school community. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to supporting students with developmental disabilities and fostering a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • NYSED School Psychologist certification (Initial or Permanent).
  • Experience working with the developmentally disabled population.
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in IEP management software, Cleartrack, and behavior data management software, Ensora.
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of therapeutic crisis intervention training, including a written test and demonstration of physical restraints.
  • Strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and students.
  • Strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change.
  • Ability to set limits and maintain a helping role within the school community and intervene appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation services with teachers and teacher assistants on behavioral interventions, data collection, and psychological/psychiatric conditions.
  • Consult and provide consultation services with related service staff (speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists) on behavioral strategies and student progress.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services with students.
  • Conduct all psychological/cognitive testing for students and assist teachers in scoring and analyzing educational evaluations.
  • Complete Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Submit necessary paperwork and input student management needs and pertinent evaluations into student IEPs.
  • Participate in CSE meetings (annuals, re-evaluations, reviews) and chair meetings when necessary.
  • Collect and analyze behavior data to monitor the effectiveness of student behavior intervention plans and submit quarterly behavior progress notes.
  • Consult with campus psychiatrist as needed for behavior or medication-related concerns.
  • Chair and run classroom team builder’s meetings to discuss student behavior concerns.
  • Attend weekly campus-wide critical behavior meetings.
  • Maintain training and certification in therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI), restraint techniques, and behavior management, and provide immediate TCI.
  • Model composure and good judgment during crisis situations.
  • Model and contribute positively to the school climate using positive behavior intervention and supports (PBIS) with students and staff.
  • Be an active member of the PBIS committee.
  • Participate and provide feedback in intake meetings and screenings of incoming students.
  • Interpret evaluative test results for the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, such as assisting in arrival/dismissal, fire drills, staffing, field trips, and events.
  • Relate to students, families, and colleagues in a friendly and cooperative manner.
  • Treat everyone with respect and uphold dignity at all times.
  • Welcome and assist new staff members.
  • Focus on creating positive outcomes and understanding the complex needs of the student population.
  • Complete situation reports, restraint forms, accident/incident reports as required.
  • Follow guidelines for building security and parking regulations.
  • Participate in fire drills and other emergency drills, ensuring student supervision.
  • Care for equipment and supplies, keeping materials organized and recommending purchases.
