About The Position

The Inclusion Support Specialist (ISS) is an integral member of our educational and support team, dedicated to facilitating the successful inclusion and integration of children with autism into mainstream educational and social environments. The ISS will work directly with children, educators, and support staff to create effective strategies that promote the development of social, communication, and self-regulation skills. The ISS will work on problem solving skills with peers, coping scenarios within a regular education environement and increasing on-task tolerance. The ideal candidate will possess a compassionate demeanor, strong communication skills, and a deep understanding of autism spectrum disorder.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and effective intervention strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with children and foster positive relationships with families and staff.
  • Proficient in developing individual support plans and documenting progress.
  • Knowledge of behavioral management techniques and other therapeutic approaches.
  • Safety-Care Trained
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children with autism in educational, clinical, or social settings and successful integration opportunities.
  • Familiarity with inclusive education practices is a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR and First Aid certification (preferred but not required).
  • Training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or similar approaches may be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to children with autism, focusing on individualized needs and goals to aid in their successful transition to inclusive settings.
  • Implement and monitor personalized behavior support plans, using positive behavior interventions to promote desired behaviors and decrease challenging ones.
  • Facilitate social skills training as determined by the school adjustment counselor/board certified behavior analyst
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to develop effective integration strategies and share insights about the child's progress and needs.
  • Regularly document the progress of each child
  • Assist in development and implement crisis intervention strategies to address and de-escalate challenging behavioral situations effectively.
