About The Position
This position performs radiation protection activities during normal plant operations at Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant and supports emergency preparedness. The technician is also assigned radiation protection duties during refueling and maintenance periods. As a member of the Emergency Response Organization, the incumbent must respond to callouts within times established by plant procedures and be willing to live within a radius that enables those response times. The role requires developing and maintaining technical proficiency in station radiation protection and emergency response. The technician must be able to negotiate in-plant areas to assess radiological conditions, including climbing stairs and ladders, and be physically qualified to wear respiratory protection for industrial and radiological safety. The position supports extended maintenance periods, including refueling outages, which routinely involve extended work hours and shift work. Position level will be determined by applicable education and experience.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- ANSI 18.1 Radiation Protection Technician qualification.
- Two years of commercial nuclear power experience.
- Ability to negotiate in-plant areas, including climbing stairs and ladders, to assess radiological conditions.
- Physical qualification to wear respiratory protection for industrial and radiological safety.
- Willingness to live within a radius that allows response to callouts within plant-procedure time limits.
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree in a science-related field, or college-level mathematics and sciences.
- Current membership in the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists.
- Knowledge of systems within a pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power plant.
- ANSI 3.1 Radiation Protection Technician qualification.
- Instrument, ALARA, shipping, or other specialty experience.
Responsibilities
