About The Position

Renue Physical Therapy is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join their team. This full-time role involves splitting time between the Bay City East and Bay City YMCA clinics. The PTA will work alongside a physical therapist in an outpatient setting, providing effective, individualized patient care to patients of various ages and diagnoses. The role emphasizes building trust and rapport with patients to motivate them throughout their course of care. Opportunities may arise to participate in specialty programs such as BPPV/Vertigo, Cancer Rehabilitation, Functional Capacity Evaluations, Golf Mechanics Assessment, Pelvic & Women’s Health, and Teletherapy, or to help develop new programs. A successful PTA will demonstrate patient-centered care through communication, teamwork, and compassion, along with integrity, character, and honesty, while maintaining a friendly environment for patients and team members.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the State of Michigan
  • Current CPR certification
  • Physical Therapy Assistant degree from an accredited college/PTA program
  • Demonstrated experience using computer applications, including electronic medical records, word processing and email.
  • Experience selecting, instructing and completing various interventions as appropriate according to documentation including therapeutic exercises and manual therapy.
  • Demonstrated proficiency finding, evaluating, interpreting and applying current patient care research literature.
  • Able to complete assignments with attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility to work effectively with supervisors, co-workers, patients and the general public.
  • Able to work independently with minimal guidance as part of a team.
  • Capable of coordinating efforts and collaborating with a variety of individuals having conflicting agendas.
  • Ability to establish and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
  • Capable of explaining complex issues in a concise manner to patients and co-workers.
  • Communicate clearly and distinctly when answering phones.
  • Communicate with people of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret professional level documents written using advanced medical terminology in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear and concise reports and correspondence at a professional level.
  • Communicate fluently using Standard English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares treatment room(s) for patient by following procedures and protocols (clean table surface and change pillowcase).
  • Prepares patients for physical therapy treatment by welcoming, comforting, providing and/or assisting patient into physical therapy gym/rooms.
  • Assists with patient care by applying/removing heat packs; cold packs; assisting patients off of traction table; helping patients onto exercise equipment, monitoring motion; tracking walking time and distance; assists with guidance of prescribed exercises and strengthening techniques.
  • Educates patients by demonstrating proper use of equipment and exercise routines.
  • Provides assistance with positioning equipment for therapist access; positioning patient on equipment.
  • Consulting with patients to learn about their physical condition; Accessing and interpreting initial evaluation and progress note documentation; Providing input to the physical therapist in the modification of treatment plans using a variety of treatment techniques based on age, specific cultural and rehabilitative needs in compliance with the Physical Therapy Practice Act.
  • Develop rapport and trust with your patients to encourage and motivate them to do their best while undergoing physical therapy.
  • Exercise independent judgement based on experience and collaboration with a physical therapist to provide individualized effective patient care; Communicate and coordinate with the physical therapist to ensure a consistent level of care; Assisting clients in exercises to minimize injury and promote fitness; Modifying exercises as needed for patients.
  • Teaches, supervises and counsels the patient and family regarding the recovery process, challenges to expect, home exercises injury prevention, ergonomics, ways to promote physical health and other care needs as appropriate to the patient’s condition; Utilizes educational material as appropriate.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations by assisting with laundry, refilling paper needs in all areas; monitor/clean restrooms; sweep/vacuum floors; remove trash from areas.
  • Maintains physical therapy supplies inventory by checking stock and refilling needed supplies.
  • Ensures operation of physical therapy equipment by completing preventive maintenance/cleaning requirements; following manufacturer’s instruction.
  • Adhere to applicable policies and procedures of company, Federal as well as Michigan state regulations.
  • Provides thorough, timely, professional and consistent patient care documentation through the electronic medical record (EMR); Daily notes per company policies; Documentation demonstrates minimal to no grammatical errors; Documentation clearly indicates medical necessity and clinical progression towards completion of care.
  • Contribute to success and growth of clinic through specialty programs and community outreach.
  • Complete all requirements to maintain up to date PTA license including continuing education.
  • Assist administrative staff with billing and reporting inquiries.
  • Assist with clerical needs such as making copies, charts and answering phones/scheduling when necessary.
  • Communicates positively, appropriately and in a timely fashion to all communications including patients, co-workers, supervisors, physicians, etc.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Enhances physical therapy department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Follow plan of care created by the Physical Therapist as well as work under their oversight with consistent communication.
