About The Position

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of experience in lactation support.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada.
• BLS certification.
• S.T.A.B.L.E. certification.
• IBCLC Certification or Advanced Nurse Lactation Consultant (ANLC) Certification.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Meditech, purchasing vendor applications, and other required applications.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile figures, punctuate and spell correctly, and transcribe accurately.
• Effective organization, communication, judgment, customer orientation, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct lactation care and instruction to breastfeeding mothers and infants in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Promote breastfeeding and support evidence-based care management within clinical settings.
• Assess patients’ lactation goals, needs, and issues; take histories and perform breast and feeding evaluations.
• Develop treatment plans and make appropriate referrals.
• Perform and document initial and ongoing lactation assessments according to standards.
• Identify changes or problems with breastfeeding or lactation, intervene promptly, and report changes to appropriate healthcare providers.
• Assess lactation education needs and plan, provide, and document individualized interventions, guidance, and patient education.
• Account for patient-specific factors such as age, race, nationality, culture, health vulnerabilities, and socioeconomic circumstances when providing care.
• Prioritize lactation needs, review and update plans of care, and document and communicate outcomes to appropriate healthcare providers.
• Complete mandatory education and facility-wide competency requirements, including lactation-specific competencies.
• Maintain knowledge of current lactation interventions, equipment, theories, and research.
• Perform miscellaneous duties related to lactation as assigned and participate in quality improvement activities as needed.
• Provide and document lactation assistance and education to mothers and babies in the NICU and other specialty units, including those with complex or multiple risk factors.
• Provide routine and complex outpatient lactation consultations.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating policies, procedures, and patient and staff education materials.
• Assist with training and precepting lactation team members, staff nurses, healthcare providers, and students.
• Develop community outreach as needed.
• Monitor outcomes, maintain lactation-related data, and identify quality improvement projects.
