About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 21 years old, or age 20 with an associate degree or 60 completed post-secondary credit hours by May 30, 2027.
• Pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Pre-Employment Physical Fitness Test within a year of submitting the application, or provide proof of a valid passing score.
• Have or be able to obtain a valid Maine Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
• Be willing to locate anywhere within the State of Maine.
• Be willing to locate for the summer in Naples or Greenville at a state facility, or in the Belgrade Lakes area without state housing.
• Knowledge of wildlife, hunting, fishing, trapping, and boat operation.
• Strong desire to work in law enforcement, self-initiative, and willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, often without assistance.
• Successfully complete each required phase of the selection process, including examinations, background and polygraph screening, assessments, and swim test.
• New Deputy Game Wardens must attend and successfully complete the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Pre-service Basic Law Enforcement Training course unless exempted under the stated conditions.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned lake or lakes, generally alone in areas with concentrated boating activity.
• Inspect boats for compliance with recreational boating rules and regulations.
• Conduct patrols on foot or by truck, boat, or canoe.
• Educate the boating public and distribute department-sponsored literature.
• Issue warnings and summonses for boating violations.
• Enforce fish and wildlife, recreation, and environmental laws under the direction of designated Warden Service personnel.
• Promote good public relations and compliance with fish and wildlife regulations.
• Protect inland fish and wildlife resources and the safety of the public.
