About The Position

The Paving Crew Member / CDL A Tack Truck Operator is responsible for safely operating a tack truck to apply asphalt emulsion during paving operations and periodically operating a service truck to support field equipment and crews. In addition to driving duties, this position serves as an active member of the paving crew, assisting with all aspects of asphalt paving, road construction, maintenance, and site preparation. The ideal candidate is safety-minded, dependable, and willing to perform physical labor in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Tanker Endorsement required.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and safe driving practices.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
  • Strong work ethic and dependability.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in outdoor environments.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous asphalt paving, road construction, or heavy construction experience preferred.
  • Experience operating tack trucks or service trucks preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a tack truck in support of asphalt paving operations.
  • Apply asphalt emulsions in accordance with project specifications and company standards.
  • Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and daily vehicle inspections.
  • Periodically operate a service truck to fuel, lubricate, and support paving equipment in the field.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle inspection and DOT compliance records.
  • Assist paving crews with asphalt placement, raking, shoveling, lute work, joint construction, and general labor tasks.
  • Help set up and maintain work zones, traffic control devices, and jobsite safety measures.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, equipment operators, truck drivers, and crew members.
  • Follow company safety policies, DOT regulations, and project requirements at all times.
  • Assist with additional construction and maintenance activities as assigned.
