About The Position

LanguageLine Solutions is hiring a Work at Home Bilingual Zapoteco-English Phone Interpreter. This is an independent contractor position. As an interpreter, you will receive industry-leading training and have opportunities for advancement. The role involves handling calls on demand, rendering the meaning of conversations between Zapoteco and English speakers across various industries including healthcare, government, insurance, and law enforcement. The interpreter must process information quickly, concisely, recognize cultural differences, and maintain professionalism. Requirements

  • Fluency in Zapoteco and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics.
  • Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral and objective at all times.
  • Ability to remain on calls that involve sensitive subjects.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to adapt to LLS technology enhancements.
  • Dedicated personal device for business purposes (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone).
  • High speed Internet connection (download speeds of no less than 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, Ping value of no more than 300 ms, Jitter value of no more than 30 ms).
  • Must have access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction.
  • Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer the majority of the workday.
  • Must be able to operate company provided software and systems to perform all aspects of the job.
  • Must have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
  • Able to lift up to 26 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation.
  • Ability to read and write the requested languages.

Responsibilities

  • Handle calls on demand and render the meaning of conversations between Zapoteco and English speakers.
  • Break communication barriers in industries such as Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, General Business, Law Enforcement, Court, and 911.
  • Process information quickly and concisely.
  • Recognize sensitive cultural differences.
  • Maintain professionalism and courtesy at all times.
  • Use appropriate terminology and understand common industry procedures and practices.
  • Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
  • Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor throughout interpreting sessions.
  • Remain calm during interpreting sessions, especially in emergency situations.
  • Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
  • Follow client instructions in compliance with protocol.
  • Understand protocol and terminology for various industries including Medical, Insurance, Finance, and Law.
  • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
  • Remain on calls for extended periods without breaks if necessary.
  • Provide company standards of service within a dynamic environment.
  • Operate a keyboard and mouse and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer the majority of the workday.
