About The Position

The WAGES (Working to Achieve Growth in Employment Skills) program is a 10-week internship designed to support young adults, ages 17 to 24, with employment readiness. This program offers an opportunity to develop essential soft skills, earn money, and potentially interview for a permanent position. A resume is not required to apply. This internship is part of the Y Social Impact Center, the social services division of the YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS), which serves approximately 5,000 youth, young adults, and families annually across King County, Pierce County, and other counties in Washington. The Y Social Impact Center focuses on reducing risk factors, navigating systems for successful life transitions, establishing stability and wellness during crises, and building competencies and social capital. Their programs include homelessness prevention, housing, behavioral health, crisis response, foster care licensing, violence prevention, and employment. The organization values relatable lived experience, especially from individuals who have navigated the foster care, criminal justice, behavioral health, and/or homelessness systems, as a significant asset for staff. The compensation for this role is $21.30 per hour.

Requirements

  • Must be within the City of Seattle Limits, or currently at-risk of or homeless within the City of Seattle Limits.
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 24 throughout the internship.
  • Ability to adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Thrive on working in a collaborative environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
  • Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly skill-building workshops and job readiness activities, including developing personal brand, resumes, cover letters, interview skills, and networking.
  • Be placed at a worksite to develop employability skills and apply learned programming concepts.
