About The Position
As a Youth Worker at Ashley Youth Detention Centre (AYDC), you will have the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of young people within a secure, therapeutic, and custodial environment. The role focuses on rehabilitation, education, and positive reintegration into the community. You will provide high-quality care, supervision, and support, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to implement case management plans and programs. Key aspects of the role include promoting safety, wellbeing, and respectful relationships through trauma-informed and restorative practices, responding to challenging behaviors with approved de-escalation techniques, and serving as a positive role model and mentor.
Requirements
- Genuine motivation to support vulnerable young people to build positive futures.
- Ability to provide daily structure, care and supervision to young people.
- Ability to motivate young people to set goals, make better choices, and develop life skills.
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with young people.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage challenging and, at times, aggressive behaviour using therapeutic and trauma-informed practices.
- Hold current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Employment Status) – Tasmania.
- Able to meet psychological suitability and physical fitness deemed appropriate for custodial youth justice duties.
- Must be available to complete six weeks of full-time, paid induction training if successful.
