About The Position

The Youth Worker supports adolescents in a structured residential environment as a role model, teaching and supervising them. The role regularly involves supervising and interacting with clients, observing and addressing behavior, and documenting services in client files. Comprehensive paid training is provided to prepare new employees for the team-oriented environment. The position is based at Abraxas Youth Center or the Leadership Development Program in South Mountain, Pennsylvania.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 21 years of age.
Valid driver’s license.
Complete a physical exam that includes TB and drug testing.
Pass federal and state background checks, including screening for specified criminal offenses.
Satisfactorily complete background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including employment and/or personal references and driving-record checks.
Ability to work with computers and the software typically used by the department.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist individuals as needed.
Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Interact with and supervise clients during daily activities to ensure their safety and security.
Provide people security, including headcounts, room checks, and monitoring client movement.
Observe client behavior and intervene appropriately.
Process intakes and screen clients according to program policy.
Facilitate and document groups and meetings.
Administer medication or supervise clients’ self-administration of medication when necessary.
Know and implement emergency procedures, such as evacuation and CPR/first aid.
Support the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promote the Seven Key Principles of care.
Demonstrate appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills.
