About The Position

The Youth Sports Staff member instructs participants in various sports, games, and activities, providing a quality experience for children and parents while promoting YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The role is based at the Lakewood Family YMCA in Lakewood, Washington, and is part-time, up to 25 hours per week. The posted wage is $17.13 per hour; compensation is determined by relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range.

Requirements

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Ability to instruct participants in techniques.
• Positive attitude.
• Knowledge and skills in programming, activities, and sports.
• Must pass background and reference checks in accordance with the Washington State Fair Chance Act.
• Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
• Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on the first day, along with other online and in-person training as required.

Nice To Haves

• Six months or more of related experience.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assist participants in skill development, game play, and activities appropriate for each age group.
• Encourage sportsmanship and teachable moments that implement YMCA core values.
• Assist in creating age-appropriate lesson plans to ensure fun, high-energy classes.
• Monitor the facility, organize activities, and instruct youth on proper use of equipment.
