About The Position

The Youth Sports Instructor works with youth to teach skills in a specified sport, with an emphasis on basketball. The instructor coordinates, implements, and promotes BGCWPA’s athletics program and may also referee games. The role focuses on teaching sport skills, rules, and strategies while promoting sportsmanship, cooperation, responsibility, safe participation, and fair play.

Requirements

At least a high school diploma or General Educational Development certificate.
Two years of experience in organized coaching and/or sports play, with an emphasis on basketball.
Dependability and reliability.
Advanced positive customer service skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with youth, families, staff, and outside agencies.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills.
Proficiency in Google Suite.
Ability to devote extended-day hours, including nights and weekends.
Required upon hire or within six months: CPR, Pediatric First Aid, Child Abuse, Criminal History, FBI clearance, NSOR certificate, PA Disclosure, PA Staff Health Assessment, TB Test, and Mandated Reporter certification.

Responsibilities

Teach athletic program skills, including techniques, rules, and strategies.
Coach and teach basketball.
Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, and responsibility to team members.
Supervise and conduct safe practices and contests.
Encourage all athletes and provide fair play opportunities for participating students.
Promote recruitment efforts while representing BGCWPA.
Respond to player injuries using first aid techniques.
Supervise youth.
Communicate professionally with parents and guardians.
Understand and apply the rules of the sport.
Referee game play when needed.
Perform other duties assigned by Clubhouse Leadership and the Sports Manager.
