About The Position

John Chavis Memorial Park is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic Youth Sports Instructor to bring the joy of movement and play to children ages 3–5. The instructor will develop and lead fun, age-appropriate sports lessons that introduce young participants to a variety of basic sports skills while developing coordination, teamwork, and confidence. The ideal instructor will create an encouraging and active environment where children can build confidence, develop fundamental skills, and have fun while adapting activities to meet the needs and skill levels of each participant.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
  • Ability to engage and motivate young children.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate basic sports and movement skills.
  • Dependable, patient, energetic, and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for young participants.
  • Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in youth sports instruction, recreation, childcare, physical education, coaching, or a related field preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Lead age-appropriate sports lesson plans and activities.
  • Introduce young participants to basic sports skills through fun, engaging instruction.
  • Create a fun, positive, and encouraging environment for children.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and recreation staff.
  • Adapt instruction and activities based on participant needs and abilities.
  • Set up and maintain the activity space and equipment before and after class.
  • Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence, and positive participation.
  • Evaluate classes and make adjustments to improve instruction and participant experience.
