About The Position

To provide an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for an assigned group of youngsters while they learn individual and team game skills, sportsmanship, and fair play. Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • A desire to work with children, preferably a parent with children enrolled in the program.
  • Exude enthusiasm and positive spirit with a commitment to equal participation: “every child’s a winner…every child plays.”
  • Exhibit patience, maturity, and dependability.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and skills in sports.
  • Recognized by others for sound character and strong moral values and personal ethics.
  • Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind.
  • Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and well-being of members.
  • Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.

Nice To Haves

  • one year of coaching at any level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coach an assigned group of children emphasizing skill development, safety, fair play, sportsmanship, and fun.
  • Preside over team activities including all scheduled team practices and games
  • Be responsible for team equipment.
  • Ensure equal playing time for all your players regardless of the score.
  • Work to establish and improve team unity and spirit.
  • Adhere to YMCA policies, objectives, and rules.
  • Lead by example among team parents to support the responsibilities of the referee and league leadership.
  • Ensure respect of property by all participants and report any obstacles that pose a substantial risk for the children.
