About The Position

The Youth Specialist is responsible for assisting and preparing youth with disabilities to successfully enter the workforce and to maintain meaningful, quality employment.

  • 2 years in Experience developing, writing, and updating classroom curriculum required; experience creating curriculum related to soft skills, career readiness, or youth development—particularly for youth with disabilities—is preferred
  • Valid driver's license and insurance required
  • Maintain a reliable vehicle
  • Frequent travel within GIWM territory
  • Occasional availability to work after-hours for special projects

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments in order to develop a customized plan based on the individual's strengths, abilities, preferences, and desired employment outcomes
  • Proactively work to eliminate barriers to service accessibility by providing assistance in locating resources for participants
  • Maintain case files in appropriate database, including intake, assessment, progress, and program required information
  • Provide introduction to Post-Secondary school options
  • Meet with students in schools, attend IEP's as requested, and share information with teachers and other school staff as appropriate
  • Coordinate Work Based Learning Program within Goodwill stores and with employers in the community
  • Develop curriculum and deliver individual and classroom training on soft skills, interview preparation, resume building, self-advocacy, job/career exploration, and post-secondary opportunities
  • Provide job search assistance and employment check-ins
  • Develop and maintain positive networking relationships with community partners
  • Coordinate appropriate job training opportunities in conjunction with partner employers
  • Identify and secure work experience and employment/career opportunities that match the skills and career interests of youth participants
  • Seek out and implement new programs to support community youth
  • Identify and support new programs to support community youth for a variety of Goodwill programs including Justice Involved .
  • Perform the duties of a Career Coach as needed
