About The Position

Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) is seeking two (2) organized, creative, and community-focused individuals to join the Youth Services Department at Montclair Library in Dumfries, Virginia. The ideal candidates are collaborative team players with excellent customer service skills and a passion for serving children, teens, and their families. These individuals will bring creativity, enthusiasm, and a community-centered approach to developing engaging library services and programs for our younger patrons. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library or information science

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a public library, school library, or bookstore.
  • Experience in planning, promoting, and implementing successful programs.
  • Experience utilizing public library resources in both digital and physical formats.
  • Experience collaborating effectively within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and virtual meeting platforms such as Webex, or equivalent software.
  • Experience assisting patrons with technology, including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, tablets, and e-readers.
  • Experience using an Integrated Library System.
  • Experience conducting community outreach and building community partnerships.
  • Experience planning and leading programs in a library setting or through a community-based organization.
  • Experience with collection maintenance practices, including weeding, merchandising, and rebalancing floating collections.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and assist with library programming, including story times, programs, tours, and outreach for youth of all ages and their families
  • Regularly work at the integrated service desk and provide patrons with circulation, reader’s advisory, reference, and technology assistance
  • Maintain children’s and young adult collections through weeding and rebalancing
  • Create displays, book lists, flyers, posters and other handouts to promote the library’s physical collection, online resources, and youth programming
  • Represent Prince William Public Libraries at outreach events
  • Train, schedule, and supervise Teen Volunteers for Summer Reading Program and Teen Advisory Group
