About The Position

The D'Angelo Law Library contributes to the success of the University of Chicago and Law School communities and is a valued partner in the Law School's scholarship, teaching, and learning. D'Angelo is a part of the University of Chicago Library, working cooperatively to ensure rapid access to collections and resources. D'Angelo team members foster and maintain a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture to provide exceptional and innovative service to the University of Chicago community. The D'Angelo Law Library is seeking a collaborative, service-oriented Scholarly Services Librarian to join our User Services team. This position provides high-quality reference and faculty research support to the University of Chicago Law School community, with the opportunity to grow the Library's faculty-facing scholarly services — helping faculty and student-edited journals navigate publishing, visibility, and emerging developments in legal scholarship such as empirical research and generative AI. We welcome applicants at any career stage. This role is responsible for providing excellent reference and faculty research support and building the Law Library's scholarly services for the Law School community. If you are newer to the profession, you will be mentored and supported as you develop these services; if you are more experienced, you will have room to lead and shape this work from the start.

Requirements

A graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library school or a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school (degree must be completed by the start date of employment).
Experience using legal sources, databases, and research tools, as evidenced by relevant coursework, work experience, or other related experience.
Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff.
Evidence of initiative, a strong user-service philosophy, and a commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

Both a graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library school and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Previous experience working in an academic or law library.
Knowledge of data research tools, statistical software, or empirical research methodologies in law or the social sciences.
Familiarity with current trends in legal scholarship, academic publishing, or the impact of generative AI on the research life cycle.
Teaching or training experience.
Knowledge of one or more non-English languages.

Responsibilities

Provide in-person and virtual reference services to Law School faculty, students, and other researchers as part of a rotating schedule.
Respond to faculty research requests and support legal and interdisciplinary research needs using print and digital resources.
Create and maintain research guides, tutorials, and other research tools.
Contribute to library instruction, orientations, and workshops for students, faculty, and staff.
Provide faculty-facing guidance on scholarly visibility, publishing, and academic identity (e.g., scholarly profiles, ORCID, SSRN).
Serve as a point of contact for the Law School's research centers.
Help faculty and student-edited journals understand how developments such as empirical legal research, interdisciplinary work, and generative AI may affect research and publishing decisions, connecting them to relevant campus expertise when appropriate.
Contribute to the ongoing development of scholarly services based on faculty needs and observed trends.
Participate in library and University committees.
Engage in professional development, including opportunities to participate in law librarianship organizations at the regional or national level.
Perform other duties as assigned.
