About The Position

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) is seeking qualified candidates for its Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA). The YPSA aims to foster respect and trust between children and law enforcement professionals, helping children build confidence and teamwork skills while learning about law enforcement duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

Eighteen (18) years or older.
Possess a High School diploma or equivalent prior to start date.
Prior experience working with students and young children.
Good communication skills.
Must attend a temporary training academy.
Must have an active valid driver’s license.
Must have the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts.
Must pass a criminal background check.
Subject to mandatory random drug testing.
Superior communication skills with parents, public safety personnel, and YPSA/MSO management.

Nice To Haves

Past experience working with children with disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide direction and support for the YPSA.
Manage YPSA counselors and assist the YPSA Director.
Supervise and manage Counselors and Cadets.
Lead staff and Cadets during offsite events such as Community Day and YPSA graduation.
Assist with food and grounds preparations for the camp.
Relieve counselors during necessary breaks.
Enforce community rules during the YPSA.
Coordinate camp registrations.
Enter purchase orders for YPSA supplies.
Maintain inventory of YPSA supplies.
Field phone calls and emails from parents, public safety professionals, and YPSA/MSO staff members.
Assist the YPSA Director with preparations for the weekly YPSA graduation.
Teach young children about public safety.
Perform other work duties as assigned by the YPSA Director or designee.
Perform other related work as required.
