About The Position

This position provides direct supervision and leadership to a work crew of young adults participating in the TIGHT or AmeriCorps programs. The Crew Leader works alongside participants on labor based project sites, modeling effective work habits, safe practices, and quality workmanship. This includes performing and demonstrating manual labor tasks and working outdoors year round. The role supports participants' job skill development, educational progress, and life skill growth while ensuring the safe, timely, and accurate completion of assigned projects. The Crew Leader collaborates closely with partner agencies, project sponsors, employers, and community organizations to coordinate services, maintain strong working relationships, and identify career pathway opportunities. Responsibilities also include tracking participant progress, maintaining complete and accurate documentation, and assisting with the development of new project sites and training opportunities. The primary office location for this position is in Greeley, with regular travel throughout Weld County. Reliable, predictable attendance is required within department business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. During the summer months, the work schedule adjusts to meet youth and project needs and requires a start time of 7:30 a.m., typically concluding at 3:30 p.m. This position is fully in person and is not eligible for consistent telework arrangements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years of experience working with youth, preferably in human services, youth corps, youth corrections, youth counseling or an educational environment.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather and perform physical work activities.
  • Ability to enter data and organize information so it accessible to others.
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Windows and Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply math concepts and calculations in the work environment.
  • Ability to handle high stress situations.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and appropriate release of information.
  • Pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.
  • Pass Department of Human Services background checks prior to employment start date.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical screening.
  • Pass a drug screening.
  • Pass a CBI/FBI fingerprint check prior to employment start date and will continue to be subject to CBI/FBI monitoring throughout employment.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Liability Insurance (Upon Hire Required)
  • Pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) evaluation and if hired, will be subject to continuous monthly MVR monitoring and random drug screens throughout employment.
  • Provide own transportation and be willing to travel as needed to meet the essential functions of the position.
  • Willing to drive a county vehicle which will be provided to transport clients or participants.
  • Pre-employment substance screening is required for this position.
  • Subject to a pre-employment drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Client focused case management experience in a Human Services or related field.
  • Understanding how to implement trauma informed care
  • Knowledge of the construction trade and skills using basic hand tools and equipment.
  • Ability to keyboard at 35 words per minute.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a work crew of youth experiencing trauma from the TIGHT program on a variety of job sites performing tasks necessary to complete work projects that are primarily labor based.
  • Work alongside crew participants teaching skills needed to perform project work.
  • Ensure work projects are completed with accuracy and on schedule.
  • Monitor individual project development and manage risk to ensure crew member safety.
  • Effectively communicate with project sponsors and report project outcomes to the WCYCC Supervisor.
  • Assist in the process of establishing individual participant short term and long-term goals to include educational, employment, and personal development goals.
  • Transport crew members to worksites and other training or supportive services appointments in a county vehicle.
  • Ensure that crew members arrive on time and regularly to appointments arranged through the program.
  • Provide onsite individual educational support to assist youth with obtaining their GED or to maintain academic performance.
  • Perform as a role model for participants by exhibiting good communication skills, positive attitude, and quality workmanship.
  • Promote the development of teamwork and conflict resolution skills.
  • Engage program participants to increase basic Life Skills through the facilitation of available trainings.
  • Teach and mentor youth by example with the goal of delaying or eliminating the need for out of home placement.
  • Meet program goals including standards established locally, by the state, and/or federal government.
  • Support Youth programs within the Weld County Workforce Center to achieve common goals.
  • Work in close relationship with partner agencies such as child welfare, probation, pre-trial services etc.
  • Provide updates to partner agencies and support the overall department goals of the program and agency.
  • Collaborate with community members to provide training to support the goal.
  • Build strong relationships with individual project sponsors.
  • Maintain ongoing professional relationship with all sponsor agencies and businesses.
  • Assist the WCYCC Supervisor with developing new project sites, tracking, and reporting for grants, recruiting members, and scheduling trainings for crew members.
  • Collaborate with employers, community partners, local school districts, and other youth serving agencies to establish Career Pathway initiatives designed to engage out of school (dropout) youth and/or non-traditional students.
  • Calculate and logs identified program outcomes which include volunteer hours.
  • Accurately establish and maintain files that include all required documentation, attendance, and progress records with necessary signatures, relevant dates, and outcomes.
  • Ensure file information is consistent with data entry system.
  • Track project data and results and ensure project sponsors are satisfied with each crew.
  • Monitor, track, and document participant progress according to program guidelines.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and facilitate Career Pathways initiatives.
