About The Position

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Client Services, the Youth Programs Coordinator will develop, manage, and implement programs for residents, often focusing on youth development, education, life skills, and well-being to improve quality of life and foster self-sufficiency. Key responsibilities include assessing needs, building partnerships with community service providers, tracking participant progress, managing data and reporting, and ensuring compliance with housing regulations, such as those from HUD.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in social work, education, recreation, or a related field, and 3 years’ experience in case management, working with youth, social services, or program coordination is required.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered (i.e. associate degree in a related field such as Social Services, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling or related area, with 5 years of relevant experience.)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and coordinate activities and programs for youth residing in housing authority properties.
  • Coordinates and oversees the Housing Authority's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), including participant recruitment, orientation, placement coordination, monitoring participant progress, maintaining program records, and ensuring compliance with program requirements.
  • Utilizes evidence based best practices to assist in developing and implementing HANO youth program initiatives, including program approaches to support the academic success of children participating in the Authority's housing programs.
  • Coordinates the logistical needs of youth programs by identifying, requesting, organizing, and tracking supplies, educational materials, food, beverages, and other resources necessary for successful program implementation.
  • Coordinates logistics for youth and family events, including vendor communication, transportation arrangements, venue preparation, participant registration, and inventory management of program materials.
  • Plans, coordinates, and chaperones youth educational enrichment activities, including college tours and career exploration trips; travels with youth participants for college tours and related educational opportunities, typically conducted at least twice annually.
  • Provides guidance and oversight for the Youth Resident Advisory Board, fostering youth engagement, leadership development, and participation in community initiatives.
  • Evaluate the needs of youth and families, making recommendations for new services and improvements to existing programs.
  • Assesses the needs of youth-serving partners as they relate to supporting educational outcomes for HANO youth; provides and explains information about services and programs; establishes and maintains positive working relationships with school districts, schools and community partners to support academic success by ensuring that youth have access to current information, services and assistance for which they qualify.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community agencies, schools, and service providers to connect residents with necessary resources.
  • Participates in meetings at Place-Based Education Initiative sites focused on education to promote the academic success and positive life outcomes of children and youth living in HANO properties.
  • Works with residents, school districts, service providers, property and facility managers, and other community partners; helps residents and service providers develop and implement programs, resources, and services that may be needed by the community.
  • Collaborates with the Resident Advisory Board to plan, develop, and implement programs, activities, and services that address the needs and interests of residents while promoting community involvement and engagement.
  • Provide individualized support, develop case plans, and help residents access supportive services and resources.
  • Provides enhanced educational opportunities and makes informational and educational presentations to participants; advocates for participants as it relates to education.
  • Track participant progress, collect data, and generate reports to measure program effectiveness and ensure outcomes are met.
  • Maintains files, completes paperwork, reports, and tends to other administrative duties including departmental meetings and serving on agency committees.
  • Stay informed about and adhere to regulations and guidelines from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and other governing bodies.
  • Recruit participants and promote program involvement to enhance resident quality of life and self-sufficiency.
  • Works closely with HANO households to educate parents and children on the importance of out-of-school time programs, the role regular attendance in those programs plays in improving academic success, and to empower parents to play an active role in their children's education.
