Youth Program Leader - Long Beach
About The Position
Arc Experience is hiring a part-time Youth Program Leader at Bixby Elementary in Long Beach, California. Program Leaders work directly with students in before- and after-school programs, supporting social-emotional learning, homework, enrichment activities, and recreation. The role involves creating a safe and engaging environment where students can build confidence, explore interests, and enjoy learning. The position is non-exempt and reports to the Site Coordinator of the school site. The schedule is Monday through Friday, generally from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. One weekday is a minimum day, with hours around 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., depending on the school. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the work site before starting.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience working in after-school programs or youth recreation, especially in ethnically and culturally diverse communities.
- Strong communication skills and comfort speaking with both children and parents.
- College transcripts showing at least 48 completed college credit units, or passing an academic proficiency exam.
- Obtain a TB test and provide proof of a negative result.
- Pass a Live Scan background check.
- Reliably commute to the work site before starting.
- Provide documentation of full COVID-19 vaccination if required by the school.

Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome students when they arrive at the program after the school day.
- Organize and lead activities such as homework help, recreational games, arts and crafts, and educational projects.
- Participate in indoor and outdoor enrichment activities.
- Create unique clubs for students, such as career readiness, cooking, anime, or dance clubs.
- Follow safety protocols, monitor student behavior, and manage group dynamics to maintain a secure environment.
- Oversee students’ safety and well-being during after-school activities.
- Encourage student participation and enthusiasm while adapting activities to students’ diverse needs and interests.
