About The Position

Frontier Behavioral Health (FBH) is a non-profit organization with over 100 years of experience serving the Spokane community. They offer evidence-based treatment for behavioral health issues to adults, youth, and seniors. As a Trauma-Informed Care Organization, FBH believes in recovery and helping clients lead fulfilling lives. The Children, Youth, and Family Mobile Crisis Team operates 24/7, 365 days a year, providing crisis services to children and youth. This specialized team offers rapid response, assessment, crisis intervention, supportive counseling, resource linkage, and coordination of community services. The Youth Peer Support Specialist is a key member of this mobile team, working in homes, hospitals, schools, and other community locations to provide stabilization during crises. The role focuses on child-centered care, utilizing the youth's strengths and cultural heritage to prevent hospitalization, incarceration, or out-of-home placement. The specialist will maintain communication with team members and other staff to ensure high-quality services.

Requirements

• Self-identify as an individual who, during their childhood and/or adolescence, experienced emotional and behavioral challenges, engaged in behavioral health services, and has been in recovery for one or more years.
• Hold a Certified Peer Support Specialist or Certified Peer Support Specialist Trainee Credential from the WA State Department of Health, OR apply for the Certified Peer Support Specialist TRAINEE credential within 90 days of the start date if not already possessing one.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Unrestricted and valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a motor vehicle screening and driving test.
• Active car insurance.
• Willingness to use personal vehicle for work.
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
• Ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner as a team member.
• Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultures.
• Ability to drive a vehicle, traverse distances up to several city blocks on various terrains, navigate stairs, and get in and out of vehicles frequently.
• Daily use of a computer is required.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with the structure of inpatient behavioral health care facilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide scheduled activities that promote and support recovery and rehabilitation, self-advocacy, development of natural supports, maintenance of community living skills, and self-sufficiency.
• Assist other professionals in developing treatment interventions and stabilization plans for individuals in acute crisis.
• Provide supportive services, drawing on common experiences as a peer, to encourage clients (including children and youth) to regain hope and control over their lives and actively participate in resolving their crisis.
• Identify services and activities that promote recovery by instilling hope and experiences that lead to meaning and purpose, and decrease stigma.
• Promote personal responsibility for recovery as defined by the individual client or mental health service.
• Serve as an advocate and provide information and peer support in a range of settings.
• Participate in a multi-disciplinary team approach to provide support and stabilization services appropriate to the individual client's developmental level and culture.
• Ensure the individual and their family are heard and their needs are addressed and met.
• Engage with individuals prior to discharge from emergency departments, medical admissions, or incarceration, and participate in discharge planning and assist families transitioning back into the community.
• Maintain close communication with team members and other clinical and administrative staff to ensure high-quality services.
• Serve as a peer advocate to empower individuals in gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize crises.
• Assist individuals in crisis by finding appropriate resources for stabilization in the least restrictive environment.
• Develop and maintain linkages with community resources that benefit the identified population.
• Maintain client records and other required documentation in a timely and confidential manner.
• Travel to see clients in the community and between work sites using FBH vehicles or personal vehicles.
• Provide targeted support services and assist in the provision of a child-centered system of care.
• Work with children and youth in their homes and communities, focusing on their strengths, age, and cultural heritage.
• Ensure children and youth have a voice in their family's acute crisis and stabilization plan.
• Serve as a peer advocate to empower children, youth, and families in stabilizing crises.
