About The Position

Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) is seeking dedicated Youth Mentors to join their team, focusing on making a positive impact in the lives of at-risk youth residing in male group homes. This role involves working with adolescents who exhibit challenging behaviors, stemming from experiences of abuse, neglect, and trauma. The Youth Mentor will provide direct service delivery, reporting to the Youth Care Supervisor. Key responsibilities include supervising residents, ensuring a safe and secure environment, providing quality care, and transporting/supervising youth during outside activities. The ideal candidate will be comfortable and capable of mentoring adolescent males, understanding the complexities of their backgrounds, and demonstrating resilience in a challenging yet rewarding role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalency completion certification required.
  • Certified CPR/First Aide, and crisis intervention required.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and proof of active insurance.
  • Good organizational, written, and verbal skills.
  • Dependability, discretion, and good judgment are essential.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, co-workers, and the general public.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Human Service field preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth/at risk youth in an organized/structured setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a supportive environment for youth.
  • Assist adolescents with daily routines including meals, hygiene, medication administration, and general upkeep of their living space.
  • Transport individuals and groups of adolescents for appointments or field trips.
  • Provide daily security and up-keep of the facility.
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and participate in daily recreational and social activities, including outdoor programs and physical exercise.
  • Consult and communicate with shift leaders, supervisors, and professional staff regarding behavior issues and resident needs.
  • Participate in the implementation and monitoring of client case plans as directed.
  • Participate in in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Assign and supervise chores and perform light housekeeping duties.
  • Respond to critical incidents and emergencies, documenting them appropriately.
  • Assist with the initial intakes and discharge of youth.
  • Document activities and observations in the logbook according to policies and procedures.
  • Conduct group meetings with youth to discuss issues and address concerns.
  • Provide instruction on appropriate behaviors and independent living skills.
  • Observe and document the behavior, development, and needs of adolescents.
  • Maintain daily written records and logs of observations and concerns about individual adolescents.
  • Provide responsive, high-quality service to external agencies and the public.
