About The Position

Active Minds is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the culture around mental health. Through its presence on college campuses, in high schools, and with a broad public audience, Active Minds fosters supportive communities and saves lives. Founded in 2003, the organization aims to empower a new generation to end the silence surrounding mental health, advocating for it to be as highly valued as physical health. The internship program is designed for current college students and recent graduates, offering them the chance to engage in substantive work, gain experience in the nonprofit sector, and contribute to changing the mental health culture. The Fall 2026 internships are remote, with an anticipated start date of September 14th, 2026, and an end date of December 4th, 2026. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, with a consistent schedule between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm EST, Monday through Friday, and commit to the entire semester. Interns are paid $18 per hour.

Requirements

  • Interest in mental health-focused youth leadership programming and resource development for both K-12 and Higher Education.
  • Free to work during the Fall Mental Health Advocacy Institute sessions on Wednesday evenings once a month.
  • Has either attended or is currently attending a college or university.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Strong time and project management skills.
  • Experience serving in student leadership roles in high school or in college, but preferably in both settings.
  • Demonstrated ability of working in teams under deadlines.
  • Ability to react with appropriate levels of urgency to situations and events that require quick response or turnaround.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Dropbox.
  • All applicants must be currently enrolled in, or have previously attended, a U.S. based college or university.
  • All applicants must be able to complete a work authorization (I-9) during onboarding.
  • All applicants must be able to complete the entirety of the internship program during the listed dates in the job description.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support with program facilitation for the Mental Health Advocacy Institute and as needed for the Mental Health Advocacy Academy, and the High School Advisory Board.
  • Develop resources and provide feedback for Your Voice is Your Power Resource Hub.
  • Support youth leadership program administrative tasks such as sending out mass communications and keeping track of participant information.
  • Assist in the creation of supplemental materials for the youth leadership programs including but not limited to one-pagers, worksheets, activities, etc.
  • Provide support as needed to team members of the Youth Leadership department.
  • Review and provide feedback on student content and materials who are enrolled in youth leadership programs.
