The IRC office in Miami has been serving the community since the 1960s. Over the decades, IRC in Miami has provided critical support to refugees, asylees, survivors of human trafficking, unaccompanied minors, immigrant youth, and their families. The Immigrant Youth Casework Intern will support our Miami-Dade-based Immigrant Youth team in delivering essential services to immigrant children and their families. Key responsibilities include identifying and connecting clients with community resources to enhance self-sufficiency, as well as participating in community awareness and outreach initiatives. The position may require travel within the Miami-Dade region. The hours for this position are flexible; however, will primarily be between 9AM and 5PM on weekdays, with occasional weekend activities. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid, and we are currently considering candidates in South Florida only.

Requirements

  • Must pass a background check
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum commitment of 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months.

Responsibilities

  • Assist caseworkers serving children and their families by helping them with school enrollment, public benefits applications, making referrals, and client advocacy.
  • Assist with research on local community resources.
  • Assist with outreach to local organizations to help establish partnerships within the community.
  • Assist with managing client case notes and files
  • Communicate case statuses and coordinate service plans with the supervisor
