About The Position

COIC is seeking a passionate individual to mentor and empower at-risk youth while also networking and developing relationships with local employers. This role involves outreach to secure internship opportunities, coaching and motivating underserved youth, and guiding them in exploring career pathways for personal and financial stability. The position aims to strengthen the local workforce and economy and promote the value of local youth.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently, diplomatically, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to self-manage time effectively and efficiently.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Central Oregon labor market, the public/private business sectors, and local community resources.
  • Knowledge of group facilitation, counseling techniques, and teaching methods.
  • Proficient in the use of Excel, Word, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A high school diploma and two years of relevant experience in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field may be substituted.
  • One (1) year's supervisory experience.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must have a valid Oregon drivers license and access to a private vehicle or equivalent means of transportation for travel between work sites.
  • Must complete an Oregon Department of Education fingerprinting and criminal record check and agree to release that information to the Department of Education.
  • Must maintain client and agency confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a solid skills training program for youth assigned to the case manager's caseload.
  • Carry out work assignments ensuring that work is performed in a safe manner and with quality outcomes.
  • Enroll eligible youth into both federally and state-funded grant opportunities carrying out all associated case management duties.
  • Meet with eligible youth in local high schools, alternative high schools, community colleges and other partner agencies to recruit and enroll appropriate youth into the Youth Compass Internship program.
  • Focus on internship placement to provide necessary work skills for future employment.
  • Provide necessary case management services, including follow-up services to youth including paperwork from enrollment to termination for those youth who are enrolled concurrently in the Oregon Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title 18 program.
  • Develop and place youth in the local community in paid internships.
  • Provide regular follow-up on placements to evaluate student progress.
  • Work with classroom instructors to ensure youth are making progress towards their educational goals, COIC programs, local high schools, and other local partner organizations.
  • Assist with conferences and evaluation of each student's progress.
  • Develop and teach career search and work readiness classes for COIC youth.
  • Assist youth in becoming work-ready, helping youth work past barriers to make them more employable in the future.
  • Work under the direct supervision of the WIOA Youth Employment and Training Manager.
