About The Position

Youth Development Professionals (YDPs) prepare youth for success by creating an environment that facilitates the achievement of Boys & Girls Clubs’ youth development outcomes. This work is accomplished by promoting participation in clubhouse programs, providing guidance, and role modeling to members. YDPs are responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a broad range of programs within a designated Club, focusing on areas such as Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, Character and Leadership, Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, Technology, and The Arts and Cultural Enrichment.

Requirements

Experience working with youth and understanding of youth development.
Demonstrated experience conducting youth activities in at least one of the designated Core Areas.
High School Diploma or GED.
Negative TB test.
CPR and First Aid Certification (Within 30 days of hire).
Background check clearance.
NCLB (No Child Left Behind) certification required / 48 Transferable Units.
Demonstrated knowledge of youth development, safe and appropriate activities for youth, and understanding of the culture and community in which the clubhouse is located.

Motivational skills (Able to motivate youth and manage behavior problems).

Project Management skills (Able to plan, implement, and supervise safe, quality programs for youth).

Responsibilities

Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities provided within a specific program area, such as Education, Special Athletics, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education.
Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes by promoting and stimulating program participation.
Registers new members and participates in their club orientation process.
Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
Effectively implements and administers programs, services, and activities for drop-in members and visitors.
Monitors and evaluates programs, services, and activities to ensure the safety of members, quality in programs, and appearance of the branch at all times.
Prepares periodic activity reports.
Ensures a productive work environment by participating in weekly branch staff meetings.
May participate in special programs and/or events.
May be required to drive Club van.
