About The Position

Zach Gordon Youth Services is looking for a qualified individual to fill our Youth Development Leader position at Shéiyi X _ aat Hít Youth Shelter. The ideal candidate enjoys working with teens and middle school-aged youth, is willing to meet youth where they are at and not give up on them, and understands healthy boundaries when working with vulnerable populations. The role requires an understanding of how childhood trauma impacts the life-span and how systemic inequities and historical trauma impact our community. The candidate should be calm in a crisis, able to problem solve, and possess strong communication and empathy skills.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
Any combination of work experience or post-secondary education totaling three (3) months in any field.
A valid driver's license at time of appointment and for continued employment.
First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment.
Submission of fingerprints for a National Criminal History report through the FBI.
No convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day supervision of youth in the shelter.
Wake youth up and cook breakfast.
Set the tone for the day and help youth start their day off on a good foot.
Cooking meals.
Light housekeeping.
Helping incoming youth with paperwork and getting settled.
Providing supportive counseling.
Driving youth to appointments and/or to school.
Helping youth develop life skills.
Supporting youth in talking through options when they have difficult decisions to make.
Making note of progress or areas where youth may be struggling and sharing this with the team.
Data entry and filing paperwork.
Supporting the work of other shifts.
