About The Position

Under the supervision of the OST Assistant Site Director, the Youth Center Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operations and implementation of the Youth Center program. This part-time position creates and maintains a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for youth through program facilitation, relationship building, family engagement, and community outreach. The Youth Center Coordinator serves as a positive role model and helps ensure that all programming reflects the YMCA's mission and core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The Youth Center follows the LPS calendar and is closed during school closures, including vacation weeks, snow days, and summer break. During vacation and summer camp weeks, the Youth Center Coordinator supports camp programming at the Demakes Family YMCA.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with school-age youth in an after-school, recreation, camp, or youth development setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to positively engage youth and build relationships with families and community partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Availability to work afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends as needed.
  • Must pass CORI, SORI, and fingerprint background checks.
  • Completion of First Aid and CPR certifications within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of required YMCA safety and child protection trainings within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or coursework in Education, Recreation, Human Services, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support the daily operation of the Youth Center drop-in program.
  • Plan and facilitate engaging activities that support youth development, leadership, healthy living, academic success, and social-emotional growth.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and assist with required program documentation.
  • Monitor program supplies and communicate needs to the OST Assistant Site Director.
  • Assist with promoting Youth Center activities and special events.
  • Build positive relationships with youth and families to encourage participation, retention, and engagement.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for program participants.
  • Communicate program information, upcoming events, and participant needs to families as appropriate.
  • Support family engagement opportunities throughout the year.
  • Assist in building relationships with local schools, community partners, and neighborhood organizations.
  • Support Youth Center recruitment and outreach efforts.
  • Represent the YMCA at community events and outreach opportunities as assigned.
  • Follow YMCA policies, procedures, risk management practices, and child protection standards.
  • Document and report incidents and concerns according to YMCA procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment.
  • Develop, maintain, and share staff schedules to support consistent program coverage and daily operations.
  • Monitor school schedules and adjust staffing levels as needed based on enrollment, early release days, and program needs.
  • Monitor accounts receivable to ensure timely payments and follow up with families as needed.
  • Attend/facilitate required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Support branch-wide youth development initiatives and special events.
  • Participate in YMCA fundraising efforts, including the Annual Campaign.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the OST Assistant Site Director or Director of Operations for Youth Development.
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging Youth Center experience for all participants.
  • Foster strong relationships with youth and families that promote consistent participation.
  • Deliver high-quality programming that supports positive youth development outcomes.
  • Increase awareness and engagement within the Lynn community.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of YMCA policies, procedures, and values.
