About The Position

Carteret Community College (Morehead City, NC) is accepting applications for a Youth Career Advisor. The Youth Career Advisor will coordinate all of the required Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Adult program elements and activities to ensure that Young Adults ages 16 to 24 attain program and student goals and objectives. This position supports young adults in overcoming barriers to education and employment, with the goal of achieving meaningful careers and long-term self-sufficiency. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or a related field of study, or equivalent education or experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing case management or related experience working with adults or 2 years of experience working in related federally funded programs.
  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets, as well as familiarity with accessing the internet for data entry into a browser-based Management Information System.
  • Knowledge of standard industry-recognized assessments for basic skills, work-readiness, and occupational skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to analyze test data, interpret results, and make decisions.
  • Proficient ability to maintain records and files, including database entry.
  • Extensive interpersonal skills are required to interact with young people, fellow staff, and outside agencies.
  • Must be willing to complete 120 hours of Global Career Development certification successfully within the first 24 months of employment.
  • Must have completed the Division of Workforce Solutions required training or complete it within the first 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assess client program eligibility through interviews and documentation, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Conduct individual assessments to identify career goals, skills, and support needs and develop Individual Employment Plans (IEPs) outlining goals and strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in the state Management Information System, including case notes and progress reports.
  • Provide counseling, referrals to support services, and job placement assistance aligned with participant goals.
  • Deliver follow-up services for at least 12 months post-program to ensure success.
  • Participate in integrated service delivery, program promotion, and customer engagement while maintaining compliance with guidelines and regulations.
  • Serve on College committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Attend required campus events including graduation, professional development, & employee meetings.
