About The Position

Rite of Passage is hiring a Youth Care Worker at Walton Academy for Growth and Change in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Walton Academy provides residential mental health and substance abuse treatment for male youth ages 13–19 in a high-risk residential treatment program. The program offers youth skills and opportunities in areas such as forklift training, CPR/First Aid, OSHA, and culinary arts.

The Youth Care Worker helps create a positive, safe, and supportive environment for youth. The role includes providing 24-hour security and supervision, monitoring and documenting behavior, participating in sports and recreation with youth, and assisting and mentoring them as they learn and develop. Four weeks of paid training is provided to new staff. The starting pay is $19 per hour, paid bi-weekly, with a $1,000 training incentive opportunity after successful completion of the Essential Skills Training Program following 90 days of employment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and 40 hours of college education, or one year of experience working with youth in organized group activities.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Pass a drug test and TB test.
• Pass a criminal background check through DJJ and DCF.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour security and supervision to help ensure youth safety.
• Monitor and document youth behavior.
• Monitor and join youth during sports and recreation activities.
• Assist and mentor youth as they learn and develop within the program.
• Help create a positive, safe, and supportive environment for youth.
