About The Position

Officiate YMCA youth basketball sports in accordance with the principles of Character Development and the program’s guidelines and curriculum. The official helps provide a safe, fair, and enjoyable experience in which participants can learn skills, spend time with friends, exercise, and compete. The starting pay is $10.00 per hour.

Requirements

Maintain current CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid certifications, renewed annually; training may be provided by the YMCA if needed.
Complete officials training.
Complete required annual compliance training, including Bloodborne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment, and Child Abuse Prevention, within 30 days of hire and renew it annually.
Have working knowledge of the sport being supervised and understand the YMCA mission in sports and how it is carried out through the YMCA Core Values.
Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Be able to walk or stand for long periods and lift up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

Arrive before scheduled games and remain afterward as needed.
Ensure the YMCA Pledge is said before each game.
Communicate problems and concerns through the chain of command to the sports program director.
Relate to participants courteously, respectfully, and professionally.
Enforce YMCA rules and respond to conduct that conflicts with the YMCA mission or philosophy.
Help organize and maintain the program area and equipment to provide a safe environment.
Report incidents to a supervisor and carry out approved emergency action plans when needed.
Perform officiating duties impartially and fairly, while keeping the sport fun for participants.
Help players learn the game when appropriate.
Set up and inspect playing surfaces before games to support player safety.
Communicate effectively with parents, coaches, participants, and volunteers.
Accept responsibility for association-wide sports programming as needed.
Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.
