Yield Engineer

About The Position

3DGS is hiring a Yield Engineer to identify and eliminate defects and process variations that limit die yield at its Albuquerque wafer fab. The role turns inline, electrical test, and sort data into root causes and corrective actions that increase output and reduce cost per good die. The engineer collaborates with process, integration, equipment, and test engineering teams. This is an on-site position in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a stated experience level of 0–5 years. The role splits time between the cleanroom and office. Cleanroom work requires full gowning, including a bunny suit, gloves, hood, and safety glasses, for extended periods. The role requires standing and walking for several hours at a time, lifting up to 25 lb (11 kg), and following strict safety and chemical-handling procedures, including when working near hazardous gases, chemicals, and high-voltage equipment. Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities. The position is full-time and exempt. Compensation is based on experience, with a sign-on bonus or paid relocation and equity mentioned. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, an IRA, paid time off and holidays, tuition assistance, and relocation support. Relocation support is available for qualified candidates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or Chemistry.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills, including SPC, DOE, hypothesis testing, and regression.
  • Proven structured problem-solving experience, such as 8D or 5 Whys.
  • Clear communication of technical findings to engineers and management.
  • Must be a US citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with defect inspection and review tools, including brightfield, darkfield, e-beam, and SEM review.
  • Understanding of device physics and parametric test structures.
  • Experience with failure-analysis techniques and working with FA labs.
  • Background in new product introduction (NPI) or technology ramp to high volume.
  • Machine learning or advanced analytics applied to manufacturing data.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing large manufacturing datasets with JMP, SQL, Python, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

  • Own yield for assigned products or technologies and track line, die, and final-test yield against targets.
  • Analyze wafer sort bin maps, spatial signatures, and parametric (WAT/PCM) data to isolate yield detractors.
  • Correlate electrical failures with inline defect inspection, metrology, and tool history using commonality analysis.
  • Lead root-cause investigations into yield excursions and drive corrective and preventive actions with process and equipment owners.
  • Define defect inspection and review sampling plans, classify killer defects, and set defect-density limits.
  • Run split lots and DOEs to verify fixes and quantify yield gains.
  • Build and maintain yield models and Pareto loss charts to prioritize improvement work.
  • Automate reports and dashboards using SQL, Python, or yield-management software.
  • Present yield status, loss breakdowns, and improvement roadmaps to fab and product leadership.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • IRA.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Tuition assistance.
  • Relocation support, including support for qualified candidates.
  • Sign-on bonus or paid relocation and equity are mentioned as compensation offerings.
