About The Position

The Yard Leader works at Pilot Lumber in Bellevue, Kentucky, and supports the Store Manager in ensuring company standards and procedures are met. This hands-on role helps supervise and delegate yard tasks, promote an efficient work environment, and provide customers with fast, friendly, accurate, and safe service. Duties include opening and closing the yard, coordinating shift changes and assignments, loading and unloading materials, assisting customers with lumber, maintaining and organizing inventory, and processing checkouts while monitoring the yard.

The role involves working outdoors in a fast-paced environment and regularly handling materials. The company emphasizes teamwork, customer service, safety, continuous improvement, and strong relationships with customers and colleagues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three or more years of lumber yard management experience.
• Computer proficiency.
• Comfort working in an outdoor environment.
• Results-oriented approach and ability to serve stores with humility while embodying Nation’s Best values.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while remaining adaptable and flexible.
• Strong interpersonal skills and consistent commitment to superior customer service.
• Ability to lift 50–75 pounds consistently and bend, twist, squat, and reach throughout the work shift.
• Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

• CDL license preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and delegate tasks to staff, including opening and closing the yard, shift changes, and task assignments.
• Assist the Store Manager in ensuring company standards and procedures are effectively met.
• Provide customers with fast, friendly, accurate, and safe service.
• Unload and load materials manually or using a forklift.
• Assist customers with loading lumber.
• Maintain inventory by labeling and placing materials and supplies in stock.
• Assist with inventory control by counting and organizing materials.
• Process checkouts and monitor the yard.
