About The Position

The Yard Jockey is responsible for moving trailers around the warehouse yard and preparing them for unloading and loading. This role involves the movement and spotting of trailers to support the warehouse in sorting and processing material for shipment or storage, ensuring timely movements and maintaining an organized storage lot for maximum efficiency. The position requires operating a yard truck safely, driving and operating the vehicle under 15 mph within the facility, and conducting pre-trip inspections on trailers before placing them in doors. The Yard Jockey must interact daily with facility personnel, comply with safety requirements, and communicate with dispatch via cellular telephone or two-way radio. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Safe truck and trailer operating skills are required
• Experience with backing 53-foot trailers
• 1-2 years of relevant experience required
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Must possess excellent customer service and organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
• Valid Driver’s License

• CDL license preferred but not required
• Ideal candidate will possess a “can do” attitude with a “will do” work ethic
• Must be innovative, confident and energetic
• Detail oriented; practices good judgment in decision making
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the movement and spotting of trailers to facilitate the needs of the warehouse in sorting and processing material for shipment or storage
• Responsible for timely movements and knowledge of on-hand inventory
• Responsible to maintain a neat and orderly storage lot oriented toward maximizing efficiency in servicing the facility’s needs
• Operate yard truck in a safe manner
• Drive and operate vehicle under 15 mph in and around facility
• Conduct pre-trips on trailers before placing in doors
• Must function and interact on a daily basis with facility personnel and comply with facility safety requirements
• Communicate using cellular telephone or 2-way radio with dispatch
• Other duties as assigned
