About The Position

A Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of yard personnel to ensure smooth operations. This role focuses on maintaining high standards of customer service while overseeing the safe and efficient handling, movement, and organization of goods and equipment. The Foreman ensures compliance with safety regulations, optimizes workflow, and supports the team to effectively carrying out duties.

Requirements

  • Standing/sitting/walking/stairs and lifting/carrying light product up to 150 lbs. as needed
  • High-level computer proficiency
  • Efficient organization, high-level of attention to detail, and effective communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct all full-time and part-time drivers and yard associates
  • Supervise workers in loading, unloading, and movement of materials utilizing material handling equipment and machinery
  • Complete inventory related tasks including cycle counts, transfers, and month-end
  • Oversee receiving of yard materials and instructing yard workers in receiving and storage procedures while managing inventory storage, shrinkage, and overall organization
  • Inspect loading operations for outgoing deliveries to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, order accuracy, load limits, and safety regulations
  • Reconcile bills of lading and packing slips both physically and digitally when receiving
  • Ensure all forklifts, trucks, and equipment inspections are performed daily
  • Provide on-the-job training to new yard employees including product knowledge of items stored in yard/warehouse, housekeeping practices, and safety procedures
  • Keep outside areas neat and clean by appropriately handling scraps/yard debris
  • Coordinate with Inside Sales/Dispatcher on daily workflow to maximize company assets/resources and support with operational tasks including receiving and invoicing
  • Analyze data inaccuracies and run reports to analyze inventory and sales data
  • Lead the location in inventory management, including bin locations and inventory turns
  • Perform the same work as other yard employees
  • Build relationships with customers, act as a location representative, and lead the customer experience with expertise in customer service, operations, and sales
  • Use company computer system to enter orders and tender cash sales
  • Collaborate with the sales team to determine necessary strategic sales approaches
  • Overcome objections of prospective customers
  • Report safety hazards and handle with improvement, or remedy to correct concerns. Report injuries immediately to location manager and Director of Operations.
  • Protect company values by keeping financial information and plans confidential
  • Follow and enforce all safety rules and policies as outlined by, and communicated by, Bliffert Lumber Management and report injuries immediately to the Location Manager
  • Work with the Location Manager and sales staff to maximize the customer experience
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the location
  • Perform additional job responsibilities as determined by the Location Manager
