About The Position

The Yard Equipment Operator plays a hands-on role in supporting Associated Electric Cooperative’s power generation operations. The role operates heavy mobile equipment and supports coal and ash handling systems to maintain safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. The operator works with a team to maintain equipment and plant grounds while building skills in an essential energy career.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 18 months of heavy equipment operating experience, such as operating bulldozers, haul trucks, scrapers, or similar mobile equipment.
• Plant experience and/or at least one year of heavy industrial mechanical or electrical experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn coal yard systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment, including bulldozers, haul trucks, and scrapers, to handle, condition, convey, and store coal and ash and maintain plant grounds.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain heavy mobile equipment, coal handling equipment, conveyors, and related systems through routine lubrication, cleaning, and preventive maintenance.
• Recognize equipment issues, use hand tools and handheld technology, and communicate concerns before they affect operations.
• Work with fellow operators in a safety-focused team, share knowledge, and keep equipment and work areas clean, organized, and ready for reliable operation.
