About The Position

The Yard Driver drives a truck or tractor in vehicle parking, yard, and docking areas to move, position, or park trucks and trailers in support of shipping and receiving. The role also transports trucks and trailers for repairs as necessary, may operate a wash bay to clean tractors and trailers, and keeps the yard neat and orderly. The position performs trailer movements according to operational priorities, maintains accurate movement logs, and follows applicable safety, maintenance, quality, DOT, and GMP procedures. It may also include sales-route deliveries and over-the-road routes as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet minimum age requirements.
Meet all DOT requirements.
Meet Dairy Farmers of America Motor Vehicle Record requirements.
Hold a current Class A CDL in the state of residence.
Hold a current tanker endorsement if needed.
Understand DOT transportation regulations related to lawful operation.
Work safely, recognize sudden hazards, and adjust accordingly.
Use computers and technology needed for the job.
Have math skills sufficient to calculate load size.
Communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Interact positively and work effectively with others.

Nice To Haves

Tractor/trailer experience within the last five years is preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform trailer movements according to priorities to support plant or warehouse efficiency and production needs.
Hook, unhook, and move trucks to and from the service department and around the dock area.
Spot or position loaded and unloaded trailers at assigned dock spaces for loading or unloading.
Connect loaded semitrailers to tractors for drivers.
Maintain accurate trailer and inventory movement logs.
Follow operating steps and perform periodic preventive maintenance, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment in the area.
Keep the assigned area sanitary and clean.
Wash the exterior of trucks and trailers when appropriate for the yard location.
Complete sales-route deliveries and/or over-the-road routes as needed.
Follow DFA Quality, Safety, DOT, and GMP policies and procedures, and report nonconformities, accidents, and injuries.
Attend driver workshops and training sessions.
Transport trucks and trailers for repairs as necessary, following policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
